I am finally on summer break until August 15th! Somehow I managed to get through 8/12 months of this crazy nursing program with good grades and my sanity intact. I had the following classes this summer:
- Mental health
- Nursing Research
I really, really, really disliked OB. I went into the class knowing that I dislike pregnancy and newborns and left the class the same way. I don't feel like I accomplished anything in clinical except for viewing a cesarean section of twins and I was able to give a 24 hour newborn assessment that included administering a Hepatitis B vaccination in the baby's thigh. Mental health and pediatrics were my jam as it's the blending of the two that I ideally want to get into (and am currently working in). In Peds I was on an infectious disease unit and I really enjoyed it. If I were to get a job at Children's and it not be mental health, I think infectious disease might be it. I encountered some interesting diagnoses like Kawasaki Disease and Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis (HLH for short). Nursing Research was not an organized class and everyone disliked it. Ethics was great and my instructor was excellent.
Here I am on break and it feels weird to not have any responsibilities. We do have work that was released as the first week's material for Med Surg so I think I'll do that next week so my first week in class isn't as stressful. The material is essentially to teach ourselves how to read and interpret an ECG monitor. Other than homework, I just plan on relaxing, working a little, reading, taking photos with a tilt-shift lens I'm borrowing, watching and catching Pokemon, and blogging a little bit more because I miss it.
Speaking of Pokemon, here's my collection thus far:
