Like the title says, I'm in the process of getting in shape for my 30th birthday. I turn 30 at the end of January but I need to start now. The goal is to lose 25-35 lbs (I'm short and weight doesn't look good on me) with exercise and calorie counting. But really, I'm not concentrating on a specific number--I'm more concerned with feeling better. Here's what I'm using to stay motivated :
- Fitbit Flex to track my steps, active minutes and sleep cycle.
- Treadmill to get my cardio on.
- My Fitness Pal app. Their barcode scanner is a godsend. And, it syncs with the activity my Fitbit acquires throughout the day.
- Yoga mat, block and strap. I just purchased a beginners set and plan on getting flexible along with thinner.
I feel like I'm finally and truly motivated to get healthy. I just had an eye exam and was told a few things that somewhat alarmed me. One, my astigmatism got worse. This was expected because good vision doesn't run in the family. Two, I have retinal wrinkling and while that usually never turns into an issue--it's there. Three, I have an arteriole that is wrapped around a vein. It's always been like this but if my blood pressure ever gets high, that arteriole could burst the vein and I could bleed from my eye. I don't know about you but I don't want blood coming from my eyes, like, ever. Healthy eating will keep my blood pressure in check (I don't have high BP currently) and it will also keep my eyes healthier. Wearing sunglasses regularly is something I need to get better at because that will help with the retinal wrinkling. The wrinkling occurs when the eyes are strained.
Oh the joys of getting older, right?
