In my opinion, the Topiary Park (Old Deaf School Park) in downtown Columbus is the best park this city has to offer. Yep, I said it. I think it's worlds better than Goodale Park. Located at the corner of Washington Ave. and Town St., it's a five minute walk from my current apartment. I used to come here all the time when I went to CCAD. I lived in the Washington Place Apartments and used to spend time here when I didn't want to go to class.
Ryan and I watched the baby ducks grow up earlier this summer as we visited a few times a week. I look forward to seeing the colors change as autumn approaches and then how the topiaries will look covered in snow. I'll be sure to document every season.
The topiary is inspired by Georges Seurat's pointillist painting "A Sunday Afternoon on the Isle of La Grande Jatte". The painting itself is impressive, I saw it in Chicago years ago. One of my favorite parts in the park is the boats on the pond and how the ducks interact with them. When the ducks were babies earlier this summer, they would use them as safe hiding places.
