"I wish it were fin du globe," said Dorian with a sigh. "Life is a great disappointment."

Welcome, Dorian.

Angie P

Ryan and I have been throwing around the idea of getting another kitty for some time now. We liked the idea of Mona having a friend. But, at the same time we were hesitant because the idea of Mona being angry at us was too much to bear. It took some time to convince ourselves that Mona would get over it (soon to be determined) and learn to like her new companion.

We browsed various websites and found A Purrfect Start. On the website his name was Boo. We're partial to gray (blue) cats with orange eyes. He seems to be a Russian Blue mix since purebreds only have green eyes. We sent in an application that included Mona's medical records and were accepted.

Dorian is named after Dorian Gray from The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde. It's one of my favorite novels and since Dorian is described as a beautiful man...I donned my new cat with the same moniker. Let's not be petty with the fictional character's flaws though because my other cat's name is Desdemona, after Shakespeare's character from Othello. Both are memorable personas, albeit flawed individuals, but let's be honest--they're cool names.

It's been three days since we have had him and he's really making progress. He and Mona are still separated and will be separated for at least a week longer. I am introducing him to her smells and also bringing out things that he rubs on for her to sniff. There's been some hissing (on Mona's part) but she is able to act normal and sleep in her usual chair. The thought of the cat being in the apartment isn't consuming her--which is good.

Dorian is a love bug. He's very cuddly and always flops over purring. He's very interested in toys and loves the laser beam. He is too fidgety for a full on photo session but I did manage one good picture (below). I look forward to reporting more soon about him and Mona. I just want them to be friends and keep each other warm in the winter!
